Ongoing Projects

A) Special Initiatives:

i) Divyavani – Online Sanskrit Radio: Radio Divyavani is an online Sanskrit Radio that was divyavani-logostarted on August 15, 2013 with the aim of taking Sanskrit to all as a living language. Through this, SAFIC globally broadcasts a variety of programmes in Sanskrit – talks, interviews, poem recitations, songs of various types, shlokas and mantras, jokes, stories and nursery rhymes for children, reports of various programmes and so on. This initiative is the first of its kind as the radio is available 24 hours globally, throughout the year, with new programs are uploaded once every month.

ii) Samskrita Bala-Sahitya Parishad – Sanskrit for Children: The Samskrita Bala-SaPrinthitya Parishad, inaugurated on 15 August 2014, is a unique initiative established as a part of SAFIC’s ‘Sanskrit for Children’ project. The Parishad focuses on all possible activities related to creation, evaluation, preservation and propagation of qualitative children’s literature in Sanskrit. Some of the recent activities of the Parishad include:

  • Compilation of a comprehensive bibliography of all the materials in Sanskrit related to children’s literature.
  • Organizing the Annual ‘Balakavita Pathotsava’ (Poet’s Meet) that is held in different cities across India since 2014.
  • A National Seminar on ‘Children’s Literature in Sanskrit’ was held from September 9 – 11, 2016 at New Delhi.
  • Release of two books for children – Saptavarna Chitrapatanga and Shanaih Shanaih in 2016, and Kim Bho Bala Aksharamala in 2017.
  • ‘Sanskrit for Children’ workshops to inspire school students to connect with the Sanskrit language through various fun-filled methodologies and approaches.
  • ‘Art in Sanskrit’ workshops for school students to inspire children’s interest in the Sanskrit language through art and to explore how children can be encouraged to create artwork for various kinds of children’s literature.
  • Annual meetings of the Parishad members to review the work being done.

B) In Collaboration with other Institutions/ Organizations:

i) Vande Mataram Library: SAFIC is collaborating with the VANDE MATARAM LIBRARY TRUST (VMLT) in a pioneering project that will lay the foundation stone of original Sanskrit works that would enhance the appreciation and cultivation of the Vedic knowledge.

Aim of the Vande Mataram Library

  • To set up an indigenously developed library to generate verified, authentic English translations of almost all important scriptures available in Sanskrit.
  • To identify authentic scholars proficient both in Sanskrit and English and invite and assign the works of translating texts of their fields.
  • To set up the teams to take up responsibility for the various aspects related to this massive project and to form several committees to facilitate the work.

Recent Activities

  • A National Seminar was held on August 20 and 21, 2016 for selected Sanskrit scholars and software professionals to discuss the way in which this vision can move ahead and to gather the expertise of various people to execute this vision.
  • Commencement of the work towards making 35,000+ texts digitally available and searchable.
  • A website of the Bhagavad Gita (http://bhagavadgita.org.in/) has been jointly produced by the Sri Aurobindo Society and VMLT. Apps are also available for download for iOS and Android.
  • Work is currently in progress for the materials on the Upanishads.
